Scudieri Family Fisher Swale Nicholson

One Family, One Eye Center, Their Vision Correction Success Story

Last month Augustana College senior Allison Scudieri simplified her daily routine by getting rid of her glasses and contacts with Visian ICL.

“I had been wearing contacts for so long, I could not wait for the day that I would be able to wake up without the hassle of putting them in,” Allison said.

Visian ICL is an implantable contact lens placed in front of the natural lens to help people who have moderate to high degrees of nearsightedness like Allison.

“I spend most of my time during the school year doing homework, studying, and working on my computer,” Allison said. “I also work a desk job that requires me to spend a lot of time on the computer scanning documents and doing other paper work.”

She is the youngest and the last of her family members to receive some type of elective procedure in the surgery suite at Fisher-Swale-Nicholson Eye Center with Dr. Jerome Swale.

A Family Legacy

The Scudieri eye legacy began fifteen years ago when Allison’s father Jon received photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) laser eye surgery in 2016, at the Fisher-Swale-Nicholson Eye Center’s Solutions in Sight surgery suite. This type of procedure utilizes a laser to reshape the curvature of the cornea in about 60 seconds or less per eye. Then the laser delivers pulses of cool ultraviolet light that remove microscopic amounts of tissue in a precise pattern. Allison’s brother and sister have also received vision correction procedures such as PRK and Visian ICL.

Joan Scudieri was instrumental in each of the younger Scudieri’s procedures. She has been a patient at Fisher-Swale-Nicholson Eye Center for several years and a great advocate for the company.

“Grandma Scudieri accompanied each one of us to at least one of our appointments. She is a big reason that we were able to get our procedures when we did,” Allison said.

Families share many commonalities; favorite sports teams, colleges, traditions. The Scudieri family shares a life changing surgery that gave them complete eye freedom.
