We Missed You at the Cataract Surgery Seminar Sock Hop
Last month the staff at Fisher-Swale-Nicholson Eye Center hosted its second annual Cataract Seminar Sock Hop aimed to provide information about the technological advances by walking the patient through the cataract process from start to finish and providing attendees the opportunity to ask any questions they may have about it.
How do you know when to get cataract surgery?
The process begins when a referring optometrist recommends cataract surgery during an eye exam. The patient would then make an appointment at Fisher-Swale-Nicholson Eye Center. The patient would come in for pre-testing and education with our certified staff to get custom measurements and discuss options available for cataract surgery. Our friendly technicians would check their vision and pressure before dilating the patient to prep them for Dr. Swale. He would perform a dilated Fundus exam to make the recommendation for the desired outcome, before ultimately scheduling surgery at one of two locations for outpatient surgery.
All this information can be found on fisherswale.com or by calling the office, but we took it a step further. We love our patients and wanted to give them an unforgettable and intimate experience by taking them back to a simpler time: the 1950s.
The Cataract process step-by-step with a twist
The practice was transformed into a sock hop complete with a retro color palette, a giant jukebox, and cardboard record cutouts. Like a classic diner there were cheeseburgers, onion rings, and even root beer floats served by our “soda shop gals.”
The staff was decked out in Pink Ladies attire while the men sported leather T-Bird jackets. Heather our certified ophthalmic assistant (COA) was the star of the show, hilariously guiding attendees through each step of the process all while wearing a bright pink wig!
The cherry on the top of this delicious root beer float was a special performance from “The Northsiders,” a Chicago barbershop quartet. They entertained attendees with classic soda shop jams from Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and The Monotones. It was a night unlike any other.
